The “Seed” concept album by wndfrm (Tim Westcott) and Mike Jedlicka took 7 years to complete. Here's the story:
In 2011, Mike Jedlicka was commissioned by Fawn Williams Nance and Ruth Waddy to create a score for an experimental dance project. The choreography depicted the propagation of a spiky seed using a host animal. Mike reached out to Tim Westcott for assistance, since they had recently collaborated on the Tabor / NW Passage 12”. Over the next 6 months, rough sketches were produced for the different stages of the dance:
- Storm: The pointy seed comes loose from the plant during a violent storm.
- Host: The clumsy host animal exits a nearby cave after the storm passes.
- Latch: The love / hate relationship between the seed and host as they come closer together.
- Attach: The seed attaches to the host.
Due to funding concerns, the dance project was cancelled in 2012. Unwilling to discard the work, Mike and Tim came back to the rough drafts and decided to continue working on it as a conceptual piece.
The project took multiple year-long breaks before Tim and Mike buckled down to finish the pre-masters.
The final release is split up into 2 parts: storm/host, latch/attach
